The Day the Universe Changed
Music: Itman, Frydrychowicz
Transcribed by: Itman

Hey guys, welcome to Quo Vadis' new guitar column. We've finally got it up and running and I'd like to take this opportunity to explain to you how it will work. This guitar column will take on a format similar to the ones found in guitar magazines. So we will not be just giving you the music to our songs, but also explaining and highlighting certain mportant or relevant features in the song. It will continually be updated every so often and each song will be divided up over a couple of columns. Usually, it will take about 2-3 columns to go through the rhythm section and 1-2 columns to go over the solos. If you
guys have any questions, you can email me at zero_hr@yahoo.com and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thats about it for the format, so lets get started right away on the song.

"The Day the Universe Changed" is the first QV song we'll be looking at and is off of our first album Forever. The song is pretty straight forward, but I'd just like to point out a few things. First, you'll see that the song starts on E (Mi), however, its not in E Major (Mi Majeur), but in the relative minor of G Major (Sol Majeur) also called E Minor (Mi Mineur).

Both have an F# (Fa#), however instead of starting on G (Sol), we start on E (Mi). The notes are all the same, except that this E Minor (Mi Mineur) has a D# (Re#)in the scale, and in therfore called E Harmonic Minor (Mi Mineur Harmonique) in which the 7th note of the scale (D/Re) is raised a 1/2 step.

The other thing to note in this song is towards the end of this section, in which you can see many time changes (4/4 to 5/4 to 2/4...). All I'm doing here is pointing out that the feel of the beats falls on different time signatures. However, the same passage can easily be written in 3/4 right to the end of the section, the beats would just feel ackward.

That's it for this section, the new one will be up soon. See you guys next time...
